- The exterior closely matches that of thee demolished Tacoma Building in Chicago. An addition by Mauran, Russell & Garden was completed in 1902.

- The Chemical Building is one of two histtoric high-rise buildings in St. Louis featuring bay windows from top to bottom, the other is the LaSalle Building.

- It was added to the National Register off Historic Places in 1982.
